Debit cards remain the default for most British betting customers, and the reason is simply that the card is already in the wallet. At LadBet they are neither the fastest route out nor the slowest, and the experience is consistent enough that most people never think about it.

What is accepted

Visa Debit, Visa Electron, Mastercard Debit and Maestro, issued by a UK bank in the account holder’s own name.

Credit cards, and cards that behave like them

Refused, by law, since April 2020. The complication is that some cards are not obviously one or the other — certain current accounts issue a card with a credit facility attached, and a prepaid card funded from a credit card falls foul of the same rule. The bank’s own app states the card type, and that is the reliable answer.

Prepaid and virtual cards

Accepted where they are genuinely debit products registered in your own name with a verifiable address. Anonymous prepaid cards are not, for the same anti-money-laundering reason that governs the rest of the cashier.

Paying in

Instant, from £10, with the only delay being the card’s own verification step.

Strong customer authentication

Under UK payment rules, most card transactions require a second factor — a push notification from the banking app or a one-time code. This is a requirement on the bank rather than a choice of ours, and it is why a deposit occasionally sits waiting for thirty seconds before completing.

Saving a card

The full card number is held by the payment processor rather than by us. What we store is a token that works only on this account and cannot be used elsewhere. Removing a saved card is immediate and is done in the cashier.

Getting paid

Withdrawals run through the card schemes’ fast payout rails, which is why they settle in minutes rather than days.

Typical timings

About 9 minutes in the median case, and 92% of card payouts settled inside ten minutes across 1 to 14 September 2026. The variable is the issuer: most post the credit within the hour, a few batch it overnight, and one or two still treat a gambling credit as a next-working-day item.

It goes back to the depositing card

Up to the amount deposited on that card. Anything above that can go to another method in your own name. If the card has been cancelled or replaced, support can arrange a bank transfer once you can show the original is closed.

Gambling blocks

Every major UK bank now offers a switch that blocks gambling transactions at the card level, and it is worth understanding even if you do not use it.

How it works

The block operates on the merchant category rather than on us specifically, so it stops every gambling payment on that card at once. Some banks apply it by default on new accounts. It is a genuinely useful tool for anybody wanting a hard stop, because it sits outside the gambling account entirely and cannot be switched off in the middle of a session from our side.

Lifting one

Only the bank can, and most enforce a cooling-off period of up to 48 hours. That delay is the whole point of it. If you are looking for a way round a block you set yourself, the more useful conversation is on the safer gambling page rather than with the bank.

A card that has been replaced

Cards expire and get reissued after a loss or a fraud alert, and the new one carries a different number.

For deposits

Add the new card at the cashier and remove the old one. Nothing else changes and there is no waiting period on a card that belongs to the same account.

For withdrawals

This is the awkward case. Money returns to the card used to deposit, and a reissued card is technically a different instrument. In practice the card schemes usually route a payout to a replacement card automatically, and where they do not, support can arrange a bank transfer once you can show the original was closed rather than simply replaced.

Cards and the welcome offer

One detail worth knowing before depositing for the first time.

The welcome offer is one per person, household, card and device. A second account funded from the same card does not qualify for a second offer, and duplicate accounts are closed when they are found. That is a standard condition rather than a suspicion, and it is on the offer page with the rest of the terms.

A steady stake beats a clever one over a season. Advice costs nothing and the number to ring for it is 0808 8020 133, at any hour of the day or night. You must be 18 or over to hold an account.

Common questions

Which debit cards do you accept?

Visa Debit, Visa Electron, Mastercard Debit and Maestro, issued in the account holder’s own name.

Why is my credit card declined?

British operators have been banned from accepting credit cards for gambling since April 2020. Some current accounts issue cards with a credit facility, which fall under the same ban.

How long does a card withdrawal take?

About 9 minutes. 92% of card payouts settled inside ten minutes over 1 to 14 September 2026.

Can I withdraw to a different card?

Not for the amount you deposited, which returns to the original card. Anything above that can go to another method in your own name.

My bank has a gambling block. Can you override it?

No. It operates at the card level and only the bank can lift it, usually after a cooling-off period of up to 48 hours.

Do you store my card number?

No. The payment processor holds it and we keep a token that works only on this account.
